Beaune and its Hospices
In the cobbled courtyard of the Hospices de Beaune, the glazed-tile roofs form one of the most famous images of Burgundy. Founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, the Hôtel-Dieu hosts, every third Sunday of November, the most closely followed charity wine auction in the world. Around it, the ramparts, cellars and terraces of Place Carnot shape a very local date.
Vézelay, Flavigny, Semur
On its eternal hill, Vézelay and its basilica of La Madeleine watch over the Cure valley. Nearby, Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, with its winding lanes, has smelled of aniseed for over a thousand years thanks to its famous sweets. To the east, Semur-en-Auxois raises its four towers above the Armançon. Three villages, three atmospheres, three reasons to take the car at the weekend.
Morvan, canal, Cluny
The Morvan regional nature park offers lakes, forests and trails for lovers of the outdoors. Flatter, the Burgundy Canal can be cycled between Dijon and Pouilly-en-Auxois, following locks and abbeys. To the south, Cluny recalls the medieval shine of the largest abbey in the West. On Lyad, people from Burgundy share their favourite escapes; a chance to find someone to push the door of a cloister with.
